Marcos Beaton, Jr has successfully represented thousands of clients in both federal and state courts across the country. He began his career at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, after which he went to work with one of the nation’s best criminal defense lawyers, Roy Black, eventually becoming Roy Black’s partner. Mr. Beaton opened his own firm in 2017.

Mr. Beaton is also a highly respected teacher of criminal trial practice. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law since 2011, where he co-teaches a trial-intensive class with his former law partner, Roy Black. Mr. Beaton is also on the faculty of the National Criminal Defense College, which runs perhaps the nation’s most prestigious and intensive trial skills programs for criminal defense lawyers.

From 2017 to 2018, Mr. Beaton served as the President of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers — Miami Chapter.

Mr. Beaton has dozens of jury trials and thousands of courtroom hours in both state and federal courts. He has handled complex criminal cases in both federal and state courts. His clients include doctors, lawyers and successful business professionals. His cases have included misdemeanor cases where professional licenses are on the line all the way up to highly complex securities fraud cases, complex tax cases, racketeering cases, and even first-degree murder. He has tried multi-week and multi-month cases in both federal and state court and has participated in many exhaustive, internal, pre-indictment and pre-arraignment investigations. Mr. Beaton has extensive experience in matters involving highly regulated industries and is able to assist individuals and organizations accused of fraud and/or deceptive practices. Because of this experience, Mr. Beaton can also assist and advise on corporate governance and compliance matters, including in the area of anti-money laundering, health care, government contracts, wildlife regulations, firearms manufacturing and sales, and others. He regularly counsels companies from a variety of industries on the adoption and operation of their compliance programs and, in particular, assists companies in the health care industry and companies with overseas operations with internal investigations and ethics issues.
